If you are a parent of a toddler you should have by now whittled the sacred two naps a day down to one and trust me, I know you are dreading the day that the one becomes none. The general rule of thumb is this should happen somewhere between the ages of two and three but each toddler is quite their own person (I know you already know that!) and some end up still needing the nap as they head closer to their third and fourth birthdays. Hell, I’m 31 and I still need mine!
I always tell my clients to give themselves two weeks, or 14 days, post-delivery before they should expect the cloud to lift. I am trying to take some of my own advice (although you can guess I am not exactly good at that considering my schedule includes designing a whole collection before day 10!).
SOME THOUGHTS ON THE “TIGER MOM” DEBATE
As I am sure you are all aware there has been much debate around the self proclaimed “Tiger Mom” and her tyrannical parenting ways. Although I agree that many children are left to spend far too many hours surfing the web, watching TV and generally being under stimulated and under cared for, I don’t however, agree that forcing a young child to learn a piano song without water or bathroom breaks, or calling them garbage, is exactly the parenting style anyone should want to imitate.
For whatever reason mango juice is the hot item in our house at breakfast time. One problem however: it is thick and gooey and inevitably ends up all over JR’s highchair, pjs, me and now baby Wells!
This morning’s spill was particularly explosive and as I stared down at the thick orangey mess and my two slightly orange boys I felt the hormones well up into tears. Just as I was about to break down in ridiculous self pity I realized that I am one lucky lady and burst into laughter.
Baby Wells is now a week old and it is safe to say two things: one, I am completely in love and two, I have lost complete control over my hair! I was planning on attempting to fix it this morning and then I weighed up the fact that I had a spare 10 minutes to either try and make my hair look glam for my toddler and my one week old or I could indulge in an extra large latte while sitting down. I now know I still have my marbles because I chose the latte!
